I am a is a Welsh middle-distance runner specialising in the 1500 metres and competed in a number of World Indoor Championships and Commonwealth Games over the years. In recent years I have been focusing more on coaching the runners of the future at TeamThie based in Cardiff make up one of the most successful training groups in the UK.
I started running at school when I was 11, and found I loved it and had a little bit of talent. So heading down to my local athletics club was the best thing I ever did and haven't stopped running since.
I've always been happy to run anywhere and everywhere, so even in bare foot on the sand dunes without a watch, shows running is one of the few sports you can do this. So I suppose the one thing I never leave behind is my love and enjoyment of being able to run.
Night before was always Chicken and rice and on the day of a race french toast with syrup.
My proudest is going ‘sub 4’ for the mile on a cold and windy San Francisco morning back in September 2002. It was only a few weeks ago that I revisited the same track for the first time in 17 years giving me a strange sense of nostalgia and emotion in the place that I ran 3 minutes and 58.24 seconds. It gave me a better understanding as to why I have been so proud to coach 3 sub 4 milers (3:56/58/59) and another 4 athletes running the 1500m equivalent (3:36/38/43/43).
Not much time for many hobbies, but love playing any games or sports with my two children (Elliott 6 and Bella 8).
