Have you set your 2022 goals? what are they?
2021 has been a great season for me. I placed 9th in my debut at the European Championships and finished only 2 minutes 20 seconds off the podium. There’s plenty to work on but I was very happy with the running and biking. It’s the swimming that needs improvement, so there’s an aspect I’ll be looking to improve.
In the National Sprint Triathlon Championships, I came second in my age group which was a massive improvement from 11th place last time I competed. I also qualified for the World Sprint Triathlon Championships in Montreal in June and off the back of the Europeans I qualified automatically for the European Sprint Triathlon Championships.
Bold 2022 Goals
So, on to my 2022 goals. My goal is to podium at the World Sprint Triathlon Championships in Montreal. My aim this year (2021) was to target the podium at the European Championships but in the end I placed 9th. I was happy with how I performed though and I believe I know what I need to do to make that step up for the Worlds.
I’m also waiting to hear whether I have a place in the Sprint Relay Championships which also take place in Montreal just few days later.
So, that’s my main goal. Aside from that, I still have the European Championships in August to train for. I’ll be aiming for the podium again there too. There are unlikely to be any aquathlons next year in the calendar next year (in fact I only did one in the last year).
Preparing for the Challenge
My motivation is high at the moment. I’m just base training through December, building my engine for next year. I am working predominantly in zone 2, with a few mild progression runs and some cross country as fitness allows.
When I get going properly again my main focus will still be on cycling – 4 sessions a week. I will also do 4 running sessions, 3 (maybe 4) swims and 2 strength sessions.
So that’s my goal for 2022. What is yours?
