About Me
My name is Netty but many folks know me as Blind Netty. I'm not an elite athlete or your average runner because I'm blind but I hope I can inspire other folks to 'believe and achieve'.
I got into running in 2015 at the age of 49. Guide Dogs found me a guide runner and we went to our local parkrun. I was terrified beforehand and I was completely broken after 5k but I loved it and was hooked on running from that moment on.
My tether. This is a short piece of cord - my guide holds one end and I hold the other.
Nothing better the night before a race than jacket potato, halloumi and baked beans. A light breakfast before a race or training run is porridge and lemon curd.
When I had sight I used to watch the London marathon and hope I'd be able to do it one day. After I lost my sight in 2000 I never thought running would be possible. Can you imagine how I felt when I crossed the London marathon finish line in 2019 and was handed my very own finishers medal.
Going for a long walk with my guide dog and husband and visiting historical places.
